Description

Truck Racing is a single player racing game, with trucks racing around a conventional racing track.

The player has six rigs to choose from and eight courses on which they can race, with the maximum speed of the trucks over 150 miles per hour.

Truck Racing

Released in arcades during the peak of Sega's NAOMI hardware era in 2000, 18 Wheeler: Truck Racing redefined the driving genre by swapping sleek sports cars for roaring, multi-ton semi-trucks. Initially drawing massive crowds with its deluxe cabinet featuring a real-sized steering wheel and a booming sub-woofer beneath the driver's seat, the game delivered unprecedented physical feedback. The narrative pits blue-collar truckers against the clock and a ruthless corporate shipping rival. Players choose from four unique truckers—like the balanced Asphalt Cowboy or the agile Highway Cat—as they transport freight from New York to San Francisco while attempting to beat their bitter rival, "Nippon Maru," to the delivery docks.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Piloting an 18-wheeler requires mastering momentum, weight distribution, and aerodynamics. The core gameplay mechanic centers on "drafting"—tailgating large box trucks to create a pocket of zero wind resistance, triggering a crucial speed boost indicated by an on-screen slipstream meter. Crashing into civilian traffic damages your cargo, severely reducing your end-of-stage cash payout, while colliding with barriers drains the strict checkpoint timer. Between high-speed highway hauls, players must tackle challenging parking bonus stages that test their precision reverse-steering maneuvers. Each truck features distinct performance metrics; heavier rigs boast superior torque to maintain speed during steep uphill mountain climbs, while lighter trucks offer better lateral grip to navigate tight coastal highway curves.
