Description

The year is 10,600, a time when Mankind has colonized space. This has only been made possible by the joint discovery of a liquid energy mineral called lycosite by the four great planetary superpowers – Earth Dominion, Mars Combine, Venus Alliance and the Mercury League. Distant moons have been colonized and subsequently terraformed to mine and refine this indispensable precious power source.

Of course cooperation between the four superpowers was never to last and so each begin to wage a covert war for solar domination. Only you, Commander of the United Planet Nations elite peacekeeping squadron, can keep the hostilities from escalating into an all out thermostellar conflict!

Xenocracy is a space flight combat game. Set within an accurately represented Solar System, you will pit sophisticated space fighters and bombers against human fleets, pirates and swarms of ravenous aliens. As the planetary superpowers skirmish amongst themselves, you must fight to maintain the peace and battle an implacable menace that threatens to destroy mankind!

The player takes the part of Commander WingToucher of Rei Squadron, a pilot for the UPN, a kind of United Nations of the future. It’s peace keeping time but there is an awful lot of peace to keep since the planetary superpowers insist on bickering and squabbling like naughty children.

Features:
– Mix between space combat simulator and strategy game
– Balance your aid between the planets or risking losing your impartial status
– Battle pirates and a looming alien threat
– Manage research and development of newer and more powerful technologies

Xenocracy: The Ultimate Solar War

Released in 1998 by Psygnosis and developed by Simis, Xenocracy: The Ultimate Solar War is a sophisticated hybrid of real-time strategy and intense 3D space combat simulation. Set in the cold expanse of the 22nd century, humanity has colonized the solar system but remains divided into four rival geopolitical factions warring over a precious, energy-bearing mineral known as Bostral. When a mysterious, highly hostile alien species launches a coordinated, devastating invasion of the solar system, players are thrust into the high-stakes role of the Supreme Commander of the Xenocracy military coalition. To survive, you must balance delicate interplanetary politics, allocate resources to planetary defense grids, and lead fighter squadrons into deep-space dogfights.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Gameplay in Xenocracy operates on two distinct tiers: strategic planetary management and high-velocity flight simulation. From the tactical solar map, players monitor alien threat levels across colonized planets like Mars and Venus, fund military research, and purchase vital ship upgrades. Once intercept missions begin, players pilot advanced starfighters—such as the agile Orka or the heavily armored Wyvern—from either a first-person cockpit or a third-person chase camera. Dogfights demand precise energy management, allowing players to shunt power to forward shields, engine thrusters, plasma cannons, swarm missiles, and defensive decoys. Furthermore, squadron AI wingmen can be issued direct tactical commands in mid-flight to cover your six or focus fire on capital ships. A dynamic campaign engine ensures that faction support fluctuates based on your performance, directly impacting your resource budget.
