Description

It’s time to grab your Hawaiian shirt, slap on your headphones and mount your scooter as you embark on the fastest, craziest, most frenetic racer on two wheels As well as racing against the wackiest bunch of misfits ever to be gathered on one screen, you also need to use your skills and judgement to avoid the hopping-mad cat, the flying chunks of Tuna and a small thing called road safety!

Street Scooters

Released in 2000 by Ubisoft and developed by Virtual Toys, Street Scooters brought the extreme sports craze of the turn of the millennium to retro-arcade and handheld formats. Capturing the rebellious, neon-soaked aesthetic of late-90s youth culture, the game’s storyline centers on a tight-knit group of neighborhood teenagers competing in high-stakes scooter tournaments across various urban landscapes. Players select from a diverse roster of young riders, each vying to dominate the concrete jungle, outmaneuver rival gangs, and claim the ultimate city championship title.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The core gameplay of Street Scooters seamlessly blends fast-paced racing with stunt-based physics. Players navigate grid-like city streets, busy construction sites, and public parks from an isometric perspective, dodging hazardous obstacles like stray dogs, open manholes, oil slicks, and oncoming traffic. Progression relies on mastering momentum; launching off wooden ramps allows players to execute signature mid-air tricks such as tailwhips, 360-spins, and daring no-handers. These maneuvers are essential for earning style points and securing crucial speed boosts. Each playable character, such as Toby or Jessica, features unique attributes in speed, acceleration, and handling. Managing your balance during sharp corners is vital, as wiping out drains your timer and allows aggressive AI opponents to surge ahead. Strategically placed power-ups, like soda cans for speed bursts and helmets for temporary invincibility, add a layer of arcade fun to every heat.
