Description

Motor Mash is a top down cartoon racer for 1 to 4 players by using a multi-tap or by sharing the joypad similar to Micro Machines 2.

You can choose to play single player practice, Knockout Races, Single Player Tournaments, Multi Player Tournaments, Beat the Clock and Team Knockout. Players can select from 12 characters and race across level with different themes. There’s jungle, aztec temples, inner city, wild west, nightmare, arctic themes. Each of the themes have unique hazards like bridges, crossing trains, oil wells, cyclones, snowmen and killer plants.

In each race the goal is to leave your opponents far behind so they go off screen. You can by pushing them off bridges or into hazards. When there is one player left, that player wins and all other players return to start again from that point. Each time credits are awarded depending on how long each player lasted on screen. Lose all credits and you’re out of the game, last man standing wins the race.

Motor Mash

Released in 1997 by Ocean Software, Motor Mash is a chaotic, cartoon-style isometric racing game that brought high-energy multiplayer action to late-90s gaming. Stepping away from realistic simulation, the game features a colorful, wacky cast of twelve distinct drivers—ranging from the peg-legged pirate Captain Heave to a pizza-munching teenager and an undead ghoul—each competing in a brutal, slapstick global racing tournament. Players battle across six uniquely themed worlds, including hazardous Aztec ruins, slippery alpine valleys, wild west canyons, and futuristic cities, all rendered in vibrant, animated 2.5D graphics.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike traditional racers, Motor Mash utilizes an aggressive, scroll-based elimination mechanic heavily inspired by classics like Micro Machines. The overhead camera dynamically tracks the lead vehicle; players who fall too far behind and slip off the edge of the screen are instantly penalized with point losses. Drivers must master various vehicle archetypes, balancing heavy, high-traction monster trucks against fragile, high-speed sports cars. Success requires navigating hazardous shortcuts, avoiding environmental obstacles like runaway trains and collapsing bridges, and utilizing a destructive arsenal. Power-ups collected from floating crates include homing missiles, speed-boosting nitro, blinding oil slicks, and localized shockwaves. Players can also physically ram opponents off cliffs. The game offers four distinct modes: Single Player Championship, Beat the Clock, Knockout, and an intense multiplayer mode where friendships are tested through pure vehicular sabotage.
