Description

“Marbles with Attitude” await gamers looking for logic, puzzle, and action-based gameplay in Elo Interactive’s Marble Master. Players can play solo in four modes at three levels of difficulty in sudden death, mission, competition, or arcade, with the latter two modes available for two-player action. Gameplay features two types of marbles: normal and “extras.” The former are numbered to show the marbles’ weight, while the latter are weightless animated marbles that perform special functions during the game.

Marble Master provides more than 25 variations of marbles (e.g., crushers, bombs, jokers), each with a special power. Extras become steadily available as higher levels are attained, with the most powerful Flash Triangle marble (changes all marbles in a triangle to the same type) appearing at level 36. A special set of marbles is available exclusively for the arcade mode. See-saws, cranes, trios, combinations, closed circles, and more offer a myriad of gameplay styles, with options ranging from selection of various sets of marbles to screen and color effects.

Marble Master

Released in 1996 by Video System, Marble Master is a hidden gem of the late-90s arcade era, fusing competitive puzzle-matching with high-fantasy anime aesthetics. Set in a mythical world threatened by an encroaching darkness, players assume the roles of distinct fantasy heroes—such as an agile elf or a powerful warrior—each seeking to master the magical elemental spheres. Unlike standard bubble shooters of the period, this title prioritized aggressive, head-to-head tactical play, making it a competitive staple in Japanese arcades.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The core gameplay of Marble Master revolves around a circular arena where multi-colored marbles spiral downward toward a central vortex. Operating a launcher situated at the edge of the arena, you must rotate around the perimeter, aiming and firing colored marbles to create groups of three or more matching spheres. When matched, these marbles shatter, triggering physics-based chain reactions that push the remaining queue backward. The game’s standout mechanic is its character-driven magic system. Clearing large combos charges a mana gauge, unlocking character-specific special moves. The Elf character can summon a gale wind to temporarily halt the marbles' descent, while the Warrior utilizes a fiery hammer strike to shatter non-matching blocking spheres. In versus mode, clearing large chains sends "garbage" marbles to crowd your opponent's board, creating a frantic, fast-paced battle of reflexes and spatial awareness.
