Addiction Pinball (sometimes shortened to AdPin) is a pinball simulation game released in 1998 for PC, featuring tables based on two popular Team 17 games – Worms and World Rally Fever. It was later ported to the PlayStation and released as Worms Pinball to capitalise on the success of the Worms franchise. The PC version was published by Microprose, while the PlayStation version was published by Infogrames, who had recently acquired Microprose. The game itself was developed in-house at Team17.

TABLES:
1 – World Rally Fever:
Based on the game of the same name, the WRF table is based around the theme of racing cars and car maintenance, in a similar fashion to Pinball Fantasies’ “Speed Devil” table. The primary goal in this table, short of accruing the highest score, is to participate in various races. The top part of the table is sometimes difficult to see however, depending on your preferred viewing angle.

2 – Worms:
The highly successul Worms franchise provides the theme for this table. The aim of this table is to complete missions and collect weapons in order to increase your rank and move on to the next area (there are five – Arctic, Mars, Jungle, Desert and Hell). This table is perhaps more difficult than the World Rally Fever table, But provides more space for the ball to travel and has more ramps and bonuses than its counterpart.

Worms Pinball

Released by Team17 in 1998—initially packaged as part of Addiction Pinball before receiving its standalone PC and arcade-style release—Worms Pinball successfully translates the chaotic, military-themed humor of the iconic turn-based artillery franchise into a high-octane pinball simulation. Rather than following a traditional storyline, the game immerses players in a war-torn backyard battlefield where pink, bazooka-wielding annelids fight for survival. This title occupies a unique space in late-90s gaming history, combining advanced pre-rendered 3D table physics with the signature voice acting, quirky sound effects, and dark comedy of the beloved Worms series, proving that virtual pinball could be just as wacky as turn-based strategy.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The gameplay mechanics center around a single, highly detailed table packed with ramps, habitrails, and interactive targets themed around classic Worms weaponry. Players launch their ball using a dynamite plunger, aiming to trigger explosive combos and multiply their scores. Key features include the "Synapse Lock" for triggering intense Multiball modes and a functional LED dot-matrix display that hosts retro-style mini-games. During these sub-games, players use their flippers to guide a Super Sheep through obstacles or detonate mines. Completing table objectives rewards players with upgraded weapons, such as Holy Hand Grenades and Banana Bombs, which dramatically alter ball physics and score multipliers. Table hazards, such as sudden wind shifts, random weapon crates, and simulated artillery strikes, add an extra layer of unpredictable challenge to the classic pinball loop.
