BursTrick: Wake Boarding!! is an extreme-sports game using gameplay similar to Wave Race 64, the main difference being that, as you are pulled by a boat when wake boarding, it is almost like an auto-scroller and you do not have nearly as much freedom of movement.

There are two gameplay modes, Obstacle and Trick. In Obstacle mode, you race around a track and must complete the track in time and collect enough points by wake boarding through rings and over jumps. In Trick mode, you compete to score as many points as possible by performing tricks. There are over 45 tricks in total.

Other features include several different riders to choose from and unlockable boards and characters.

Released in 1999 by the Japanese developer Metro, Burstrick: Wake Boarding!! is a vibrant, adrenaline-fueled relic of late-90s arcade culture. While contemporaries focused heavily on snowboarding, Metro carved out a unique niche by taking the extreme sports craze to the water. Players select from a colorful roster of distinct characters, such as the agile Cindy or the powerhouse Mark, each boasting specialized stats in speed, jump height, and trick execution. The game's bright 3D polygonal aesthetic and pumping synth-rock soundtrack perfectly capture the era's high-energy arcade scene.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The core gameplay of Burstrick revolves around speed, wave physics, and precise landing mechanics. Towed by a high-speed motorboat, players must steer across the turbulent wake to build momentum. Carving hard back into the wake launches the rider high into the air, opening up a brief window to execute wild, high-scoring aerial maneuvers. Players can chain together classic wakeboarding moves like Indy grabs, Method grabs, 360-degree spins, and daring inverted backflips. Executing these tricks requires rapid button combinations before aligning the board parallel to the water for a clean landing. Wiping out drains the strict time limit, while successfully passing through slalom gate buoys awards crucial time extensions across three challenging, obstacle-filled courses.
