Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors

Released by Sunsoft in 1995 for SNK's Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware, Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors stands out as a cult-classic sci-fi 2D fighting game. The narrative takes place in a futuristic solar system threatened by Felden Brandis, a malevolent, god-like entity intent on cosmic destruction. Eight diverse warriors from across the galaxy embark on a crusade to defeat him. The roster includes Rolf, a flame-channeling hero; Roomi, an agile, rabbit-eared space idol; Gunter, a massive fire-breathing stone giant; and Musafar, a heavy-metal cyborg. Successfully ported to the Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and Neo Geo CD, this title served as the thematic predecessor to Sunsoft's later hit, Waku Waku 7.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The defining mechanic of Galaxy Fight is its complete lack of screen corners. Stages feature infinite scrolling with looping backgrounds, meaning players can never be trapped against an invisible wall, completely altering traditional corner-pressure strategies. The combat utilizes a four-button configuration mapping out Light, Medium, and Heavy physical attacks, alongside a dedicated Taunt button. An atmospheric scaling camera zooms in and out dynamically to accommodate the massive stages, maintaining a cinematic feel during intense, long-range skirmishes. Characters possess highly specialized arsenals; Alvan utilizes mystical light-based projectiles and teleportation, whereas the space pirate Jias relies on aggressive, acrobatic close-quarters combat. Dash maneuvers and quick recovery rolls keep the momentum incredibly fast, rewarding aggressive playstyles.
