Unlike later side-scrolling action iterations, the SG-1000 version of *Golgo 13* relies on a distinct single-screen stage format. Players take control of Duke Togo, navigating hostile environments filled with heavily armed rival hitmen and security forces. The core gameplay revolves around precision positioning and patient timing. Rather than rushing forward, players must calculate enemy patrol patterns, utilize environmental cover, and line up deadly rifle shots.
