Released in 1993 by Jaleco, Knuckle Bash is a delightfully bizarre and obscure arcade beat-'em-up that takes the standard formula popularized by Capcom and Sega and injects it with a heavy dose of Saturday-morning cartoon absurdity. The storyline drops players into a whimsical world where industrial pollution and corporate greed are literally destroying the environment, spearheaded by the villainous King Diamond and his mutant syndicate. To save the day, a ragtag trio of bizarre heroes—including a cigar-chomping biker, a martial arts-wielding brawler, and a robotic creation—set out across vibrant, hazard-filled stages to dole out old-fashioned street justice. While it never achieved the household-name status of Final Fight or Streets of Rage, Knuckle Bash carved out a unique niche in arcade history thanks to its surreal aesthetic, quirky enemy designs, and chaotic cooperative multiplayer.
