Description

The “Rastania” was a sacred place, in which the sacred temple, “Skyscraper”, soared into the sky. It is said that whoever conquer the “Skyscraper” would rule the “Rastania”. A wicked group has invaded the “Skyscraper” and has tried to make it their own. If the situation is left as it is, the place would eventually be controlled by the wicked group.

Rastan Saga II is the sequel to Rastan, containing the same hack-em’/slash-’em gameplay as the original. You are a warrior who must get through a number of levels, and trying to collect gems which can only be obtained by defeating the end-of-level bosses. Collecting power-ups along the way awards you with extra life or better weapons.

Nastar Warrior

Overview & History

Released by Taito in 1988 as the official arcade sequel to the cult classic Rastan, Nastar Warrior (known as Rastan Saga II in Japan) plunges players back into a grim, high-fantasy realm of sword and sorcery. Operating on Taito’s advanced hardware, the arcade cabinet offered vibrant, larger-than-sprite graphics and an orchestral fantasy score that elevated the atmospheric tension. Unlike its predecessor's side-scrolling platforming focus, Nastar Warrior introduces verticality and multi-tiered combat encounters across perilous wastelands, fiery caverns, and ruined temples. The storyline casts players once again as the legendary barbarian warrior Rastan, summoned from retirement to protect the kingdom of Somora from a monstrous demonic pantheon. Along the way, players can collect mystical elemental orbs that temporarily transform Rastan into a beast, adding a desperate layer of tactical survival to the grueling arcade difficulty curve.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The core gameplay loop of Nastar Warrior is a relentless, physics-driven hack-and-slash experience. Armed initially with a broadsword, players must master directional striking—attacking high, low, and while crouching—to bypass the varied defenses of skeletal warriors, armored centaurs, and flying harpies. Environmental hazards are everywhere, requiring precise timing on leaping platforms while dodging projectile-heavy bosses at the end of each stage. Weapon drops are crucial; players can upgrade from the basic sword to heavy maces, long spears, and magical boomerangs, each featuring distinct reach, swing speed, and durability. Defeating specific mid-bosses yields elemental transformation icons (such as the dragon or bird forms), granting temporary invincibility, flight, and devastating breath attacks that can wipe the screen clean of chaotic enemy swarms.
