Description
Play as two muscle-bound beach heroes playing volleyball in cities across the USA. The game features funky music and challenging game play. Computer opponent skills grow greater as levels increase or play against a human opponent.
This is a beach volleyball game that features two-player competitive play or one-player against the CPU. Good looking graphics and great music. You play one game against successively more skillful players as you progress through cities across the USA. The game play is challenging and your opponents get tough pretty quickly. Each match lasts for only a limited amount of time. You control two players on screen. Once you intercept an incoming shot, the computer takes control of that player allowing you to get the second player in position to slam the ball over the net. You can additionally make diving interceptions. A flashing blue target on the ground shows where the ball will land. As well as muscle-bound beach heroes and cheering crowds, there is a bikini-clad young woman who raises her arms to show who won the point.
U.S. Championship V'Ball
Overview & History
Released by Technos Japan in 1989, U.S. Championship V'Ball is an arcade sports classic that brings the gritty, sun-drenched energy of beach volleyball to the coin-op scene. Capitalizing on the cooperative beat-'em-up engine prowess Technos honed with Double Dragon, this game traded street brawls for sandy spikes. Players embark on a cross-country tour of the United States, traveling from the beaches of California to the concrete courts of New York, battling increasingly fierce rival duos—such as the punk-rockers Moody & Spike or the muscular powerhouse duo George & Jerry—to claim the ultimate American V'Ball Championship trophy.
Gameplay Features & Mechanics
Unlike standard sports sims, V'Ball adopts an arcade-action philosophy featuring two-on-two matches played to a set number of points. Before serving, players can input specific codes to customize their character’s stats in power, speed, and stamina. The mechanics revolve around precise positioning and timing. You control one teammate while the computer (or a second player) controls the other, though you can command your AI partner to pass or set the ball. Offensive plays culminate in devastating aerial maneuvers: by timing your jump near the net, your character can execute a rapid quick-spike, a towering super-jump smash, or a deceptive bouncer that kicks up sand. Defensively, players must master the timely block at the net or dive across the court to save a dropping ball. Stamina management is crucial; continuous heavy diving and jumping depletes your energy, leading to slower movement and weaker hits until you catch your breath.
Keyboard Controls
- Arrow Keys / D-Pad: Move character across the court / Aim dives and serves
- Action Keys: Attack / Jump / Bump / Spike (Button 1 for jump/spike, Button 2 for pass/dive)
- Enter: Start / Pause
