Description

As the story goes, three years have passed since this game’s prequel. Now the Knight Arthur must fight against the true king of the Demon World, Lucifer, who has taken many souls including that of Arthur’s beloved Princess Prin Prin.

The gameplay for Ghouls n’ Ghosts is eerily similar to that of Ghosts ‘n Goblins. The player controls the knight Arthur, who must advance through a series of spooky levels and defeat a number of undead and demonic creatures in his quest to restore souls stolen by Lucifer, including the soul of his bride, Princess Guinevere. Along the way, Arthur can pick up a variety of weapons and armor to help him in his quest.

It is the sequel to Ghosts’n Goblins and the second game in the Ghosts’n Goblins series.

Ghouls'n Ghosts (Mega-Tech)

Overview & History

Released in 1989 by Capcom, *Ghouls'n Ghosts* on the Sega Mega-Tech system brought the legendary, punishing arcade platformer into a modular, swappable cart-based cabinet era. While rooted in the classic 1988 arcade hit, the Mega-Tech adaptation allowed arcade operators to host multiple games on a single hardware unit while retaining the exact pixel-perfect sprite work, haunting gothic atmosphere, and unforgettable soundtrack composed by minu. Players once again step into the battered silver armor of the noble knight Arthur, whose eternal quest is to storm the demonic underworld, defeat the evil Emperor Lucifer, and rescue the soul of Princess Prin-Prin.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike its predecessor *Ghosts 'n Goblins*, this sequel introduces a monumental gameplay evolution: Arthur can now fire his weapons vertically (upwards and downwards while airborne), fundamentally changing how players handle descending gargoyles and crawling zombies. The iconic armor system returns, meaning taking a single hit strips Arthur down to his polka-dot boxers, leaving him vulnerable to a gruesome skeletal demise on the second blow. To survive the six treacherous stages—ranging from the Executioner's Ravine to the Lord of Lucifer's Palace—Arthur must collect diverse magical weapons like the double-edged sword, heavy axe, fiery torch, and bouncing discus. Furthermore, opening chests can unleash powerful golden armor transformations, enabling Arthur to charge up devastating elemental magic spells uniquely tied to each weapon. The Mega-Tech edition preserves this ruthless difficulty curve, demanding absolute memorization of enemy spawn points, precision platforming, and lightning-fast reflexes.
