Description

Revenge of Doh is a direct sequel to the original arcade smash Arkanoid. Along with improved graphic engine, better sound and music, better hardware support and more levels, Revenge of Doh also features a built-in editor and allows you to create your own level sets!

Revenge of Doh continues Arkanoid’s plot as follows, directly taken (including typoes) from the game:

A long time period passed and the dimension controlling force Doh has again come back to life. Occupying the huge starship Xorg, it has entered our universe from a different dimension. Mixtec, Arkanoid type spaceship, has lauched the craft Vaus II to make a preemptive attack on Xorg.

Arkanoid: Revenge of DOH

Overview & History

Released by Taito in 1987, Arkanoid: Revenge of DOH is the celebrated arcade sequel to the genre-defining block-breaker classic. The sci-fi narrative follows the lone escape vessel Vaus, which survived the destruction of the mother ship Arkanoid, only to be hunted down across spacetime by the ultimate antagonist: DOH (Dimension of Harm), a malevolent, floating Easter Island-style head that survived the first game. Running on Taito's tailored hardware, this title elevated the standard bat-and-ball formula with vibrant, metallic sprite designs, branching pathway stages, and a haunting, techno-organic soundtrack composed by Hisayoshi Ogura. It stands out in arcade history for successfully translating a simple score-chaser into a narrative-driven tactical puzzle experience, culminating in a multi-form boss battle against DOH himself.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Players control the Vaus paddle along the bottom of the screen, bouncing an energy ball to obliterate colorful arrays of space-bricks. Revenge of DOH introduces branching sector maps, allowing players to choose their own routes through the galaxy by clearing specific stages. The game is famous for its robust capsule system: catching falling pill-shaped power-ups transforms the Vaus in game-altering ways. Players can expand the paddle, multiply balls with Laser or Split capabilities, trigger a slow-motion field, catch and aim the ball manually, or activate a warp portal to skip ahead. Unlike its predecessor, this sequel features frantic mid-level hazards and aggressive alien ships that spawn to disrupt trajectories, demanding razor-sharp reflexes and spatial awareness to survive the onslaught.
