Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters II

Overview & History

Released by Capcom in 1994, Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters II (known in Japan as Super Muscle Bomber: The International Breakout) shifts the perspective of the original wrestling game into a full-blown wrestling-themed 2D fighting game. Abandoning the traditional top-down ring of Saturday Night Slam Masters, this arcade sequel adopts a side-scrolling, arena-based fighting plane akin to Street Fighter, complete with health bars, super meters, and special moves. Set in a colorful, bombastic universe populated by Capcom icons like Mike Haggar and a fresh roster of over-the-top grapplers, the game tells the continued tale of the infamous Wrestling Burner association tournament, where brawlers from around the globe converge to settle personal grudges and prove their supremacy in brutal bouts.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike standard fighting games, Ring of Destruction heavily emphasizes grappling, chain throws, and positioning inside the squared circle. Matches take place in a dynamic ring where players can bounce off the ropes, leap from the turnbuckles, and utilize environmental hazards or dropped weapons. The character roster features distinct fighting styles—ranging from Biff Slugger's punishing boxing-grapple hybrids to the lightning-fast aerial maneuvers of Gunloc and the crushing suplexes of Titan The Great. Players must execute precise directional inputs combined with punch and kick buttons to initiate lock-ups, followed by rapid button-mashing or specialized command rotations to successfully execute devastating signature slams, piledrivers, and submission holds. A robust super meter allows fighters to unleash screen-clearing desperate attacks when health is critically low, adding intense tactical depth to every dramatic pinfall and ring-out.
