Description

1945kIII is a vertical scrolling arcade shooter. Initially developed by Team Muhaha and published by Promot as “Solite Spirits” in 1999. The following year it was picked up by Oriental Software. It was then reworked to more closely resemble Psikyo’s “Strikers 1945” series.

High-quality for a bootleg game, but does borrow assets from likely unauthorized sources. The stage designs between Solite Spirits and 1945KIII are different, while many elements remain the same.

Despite the title being a sequel, there is no 1945kI or 1945kII.

In this game the player controls a jet fighter tasked with destroying enemy fighters while traversing stages, taking advantage of additional weapons and earning bonuses. There are several planes to choose from. It is reminiscent of 1980s shooters, and is therefore considered a retro game.

The plot is that jet pilots of allied nations team up to save the Earth.

Runs on conventional 68000 arcade hardware with a PCB that utilizes recycled electronics.

Overview & History

Released in 2000 by Oriental Soft, 1945k III is a thrilling, albeit unauthorized, spin-off of Psikyo's legendary Strikers 1945 vertical scrolling shoot-'em-up series for the arcade platform. Set in a dieselpunk-infused alternate history timeline immediately following World War II, the game tasks elite pilots with neutralizing a rogue, technologically advanced paramilitary syndicate known as C.A.T., which has salvaged dark-tech blueprints to build towering mechs and flying super-fortresses. Eschewing the official hardware boards of its predecessors, this niche arcade cabinet runs on custom hardware, delivering a frenetic visual style that maximizes sprite counts, exploding debris, and bullet-hell density across eight increasingly apocalyptic stages.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

1945k III refines classic arcade shmup mechanics by offering players a choice of four distinct historical aircraft, each sporting uniquely calibrated speed stats, main vulcan spreads, and devastating charging attacks. Instead of traditional stock bombs, pilots must manage a specialized "Super Shot" gauge that charges up automatically over time or through collecting P-power tokens. When triggered, your fighter unleashes a cinematic, screen-clearing special—ranging from homing cluster missiles to concentrated plasma lasers—granting crucial invincibility frames during chaotic boss encounters. The scoring system rewards high-risk, close-up maneuvers, encouraging players to farm medals dropped by gold-flashing enemies just before they escape the top of the screen. As stages progress, enemy formations become relentlessly aggressive, forcing players to master micro-dodging through tight lattices of glowing bullets while exploiting brief windows in multi-form boss transformations.
