In 1945, the second world war ended. Soon, there was peace, but an organization of high-ranking military officers from all over the world form a global army known as CANY. Their mission was to conquer the world. CANY activity was found in areas like the Soviet Union, America, Japan, and even Germany. It is revealed that CANY had weapons never seen before from rockets to mechanical walkers. The world quickly formed a group of pilots and planes called the Strikers whose mission is to rid of CANY from the world.

Strikers 1945

Overview & History

Released by Psikyo in 1995 for the Sega Titan Video (ST-V) arcade hardware, Strikers 1945 serves as the spiritual successor to Aero Fighters and a masterclass in vertical-scrolling shoot 'em up design. Set in an alternate history immediately following World War II, the game tasks a clandestine international squadron known as the "Strikers" with dismantling C.A.N.Y., a rogue, technologically advanced military syndicate attempting to conquer a devastated globe using colossal mechanized war machines. Eschewing the sci-fi tropes of its contemporaries, Psikyo grounded the aesthetic in retro-futuristic dieselpunk, transforming historical aircraft—including the P-38 Lightning, P-51 Mustang, and Bf 109—into bleeding-edge combat craft outfitted with experimental weaponry and transformable mecha configurations. Its immense popularity in Japanese and international arcades spawned a celebrated sub-genre of fast-paced, high-difficulty bullet hell titles that defined late-90s arcade culture.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Strikers 1945 utilizes a relentless eight-stage loop structure featuring pseudo-randomized level progression and towering, multi-form bosses that morph from sleek military jets into towering robotic monstrosities. Players choose from six distinct World War II-era fighters, each boasting unique standard fire, charge shots, and screen-clearing bomb attacks that summon allied tactical support—such as rolling artillery tanks or strafing fighter wings—rather than traditional magic spells or energy blasts. A standout mechanic is the "Transformation" system; by holding down the attack button, your aircraft momentarily morphs into a devastating walker mode, unleashing a flurry of concentrated, high-damage firepower at the cost of reduced movement speed. Power-ups dropped by specialized enemy squadrons upgrade your primary weapon up to four levels, while "P" items boost your scoring potential through a risk-reward chain system that demands aggressive positioning amidst dense curtains of hypnotic, swirling enemy bullet patterns.
