Description

The game is a side-scrolling “beat-’em-up” game, one or two players pick their desired Senshi and travel through various stages defeating enemies. Items are sometimes dropped by enemies that can range from items that restore health, give extra points, or crystals that allow the Senshi to perform special attacks. Up to five crystals can be collected per player to power up the Senshi’s special attacks. During the most difficult moments in battle, Tuxedo Mask will appear and throw a rose, which is a bonus to pick up and depart.

Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon

Overview & History

Released in 1995 by Banpresto, Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon is a colorful arcade beat-'em-up that adapts the beloved anime's first major story arc. Dropping players into the shoes of the iconic Guardian of Love and Justice alongside her inner senshi companions, the game takes you on a frantic, side-scrolling gauntlet against Queen Beryl’s nefarious Dark Kingdom. The arcade cabinet captured the vibrant aesthetic of the 90s masterpiece with lush sprite work, faithful character animations, and authentic voice clips straight from the television series. Distinct from the concurrent Super Famicom fighting game, this co-op arcade brawler emphasizes crowd-control combat against swarms of recurring monster-of-the-week thugs.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Players can select from five distinct Sailor Guardians—Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus—each possessing a unique playstyle, reach, and signature screen-clearing special move. Unlike traditional brawlers that rely strictly on physical combos, this title integrates the heroines' magical prowess. Standard melee strings can be chained into grapples or upward tosses, while the dedicated special button unleashes devastating elemental attacks at the cost of a small portion of your health bar. Throughout the stages, players collect iconic item drops like transformation pens, roses, and power-boosting transformation brooches to increase offensive output. The dynamic cooperative mode allows up to three players to simultaneously execute synchronized combo attacks, transforming standard arcade button-mashing into a dazzling display of planetary teamwork.
