Description

Stone Ball is a mixture of football (soccer) and baseball in a prehistoric setting. In a 2 vs 2 match neither side has a goalie; armed with big clubs, the player(s) have to put a stone ball in the opposite cave.

They can tackle, hustle or hit the opponents. Special bonus allow the cavemen to fire, burn or even bury their enemies… Also scattered around on the field are special bonus items that increase the caveman’s speed or power. There are six villages to choose from: Fisher Kings, Islanders, Caverns, Wild Holes, Big Trees and Cold Bears. 2-4 players can play simultaneously.

Developed as a passion project by a micro-team of retrogaming purists, the game reimagines the dawn of man not as a struggle for survival, but as an aggressive, high-stakes tournament fought with heavy granite spheres. The narrative follows Krog, a caveman exiled from his tribe for inventing the wheel, who must defeat a menagerie of prehistoric warlords, saber-toothed beasts, and rival nomads in the legendary Valley of Echoes to claim the ultimate monolithic trophy. Though it never saw a massive mainstream console port, the title gained a fierce cult following in dimly lit arcade parlors for its unrelenting challenge and distinct claymation-inspired visual style.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

At its core, Stone Ball operates on a unique risk-reward loop: players must simultaneously defend their ancestral goal zone while hurling a massive, physics-heavy boulder at their opponent. The game features four distinct arenas, each altering ball trajectory with environmental hazards like erupting geysers and slippery ice patches. Characters boast specialized move sets, ranging from Krog’s brutal overhead slam and rock-spitting dash to the agile raptor-rider Zina, who utilizes sweeping tail-whips to curve the ball's flight path mid-air. Mastering the momentum is crucial; holding the attack button charges a colossal 'Avalanche Smash' that sends the stone blazing across the screen, capable of stunning opponents and shattering enemy defenses.
