Description

Blazing Tornado is an arcade spinoff of the Fire Pro Wrestling series, featuring over-the-top action and characters much closer to a 1-on-1 fighting game of the era — though still presented in the trademark isometric view that Fire Pro is known for. Selecting one of eight wrestlers representing the fictional Heroic Wrestling Federation, the player must defeat all challengers to become the world champion. In addition to versus play against another player, there is also a tag-team mode for up to four players simultaneously.

Blazing Tornado

Overview & History

Released by Human Entertainment in 1994, *Blazing Tornado* is a wildly eccentric, wrestling-themed beat-'em-up arcade game that blends traditional grappling action with sci-fi superheroics. Set in a near-future dystopia where mutant wrestlers and cyborg fighters clash for global supremacy, the game stands out for its vibrant sprite work, over-the-top personality, and frantic pacing. Unlike standard side-scrolling brawlers, *Blazing Tornado* focuses heavily on arena-based combat featuring wrestling rings, cages, and hazard-filled environments where environmental destruction and ring-outs are crucial to survival.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Players choose from a diverse roster of bizarre combatants, ranging from masked Lucha libre fighters to cybernetic behemoths and beast-men. The gameplay mechanics are deeply rooted in wrestling physics combined with arcade fighting game inputs. You can execute flying dropkicks, devastating piledrivers, and turnbuckle leaps. Each character possesses a unique "Blazing" meter that, when filled, allows them to unleash a devastating signature special move capable of clearing the screen or instantly breaking an opponent's guard. Matches often require players to grapple opponents, mash buttons to win tests of strength, and hurl foes out of the ring or into electric fences for bonus damage. The arcade version is particularly notorious for its relentless rubber-banding AI and chaotic four-player chaotic brawls.
