Released by Sega in 1990 for the System 16B arcade hardware, Aurail is an overlooked sci-fi beat-'em-up that marries traditional arcade brawling with a distinct mecha aesthetic. Set in a dystopian future where Earth has been overrun by a rogue alien-machine intelligence known as "Kronos," humanity deploys its ultimate counter-measure: the Skorg, a heavy-duty robotic battle suit piloted by elite protagonist Ranger. Unlike standard scrolling fighters of its era, Aurail breaks the mold by forcing the action into a strict two-way scrolling perspective, demanding that players clear enemies in distinct horizontal zones before progressing deeper into the alien-infested metallic labyrinths. Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Ranger commands the heavily armored Skorg mech, equipped with a punchy standard attack and a devastating energy whip capable of clearing crowds or pulling distant enemies into striking range. Players can detach Ranger from the mech to infiltrate tight ventilation shafts or access alternate pathways, adding a layer of risk-and-reward platforming exploration to the otherwise unrelenting combat.
