Released by Data East in 1988, Cobra Command (released as Thunder Command in North America) is a vertically scrolling shoot-'em-up that puts players in the cockpit of an advanced, heavily armed attack helicopter. Unlike Data East's earlier laserdisc game of the same name, this arcade classic is a traditional sprite-based shooter known for its vibrant military-grade graphics, punishing difficulty curve, and gritty 1980s action-movie aesthetic. The storyline drops players into a chaotic, fictional conflict against a rogue paramilitary syndicate that has seized control of strategic global checkpoints.
