Description
An updated version of Zero 2, Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha features all the additional characters from Alpha 2, as well as other changes to the game. In addition to Zangief and Dhalsim, Zero 2 Alpha also features EX versions of Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Sagat and M. Bison, all whom were characters from the original Street Fighter II’: Champion Edition. Custom Combos are now executed by pressing a punch and kick button of the same strength simultaneously and now require half (1½ level) of the Super Combo gauge filled to perform them. Some of the characters have gained new moves such as Ryu’s Shakunetsu Hadoken and Dhalsim’s Yoga Tempest. Zero 2 Alpha also features a Survival Mode, as well as a 2-on-1 Dramatic Battle Mode similar to the hidden “Ryu and Ken vs. Bison mode” in the original Alpha. In the Japanese version of Zero 2 Alpha, Evil Ryu has different dialogue exchanges and a different ending from his regular counterpart. The game also features an arranged version of the Alpha 2 soundtrack.

Overview & History
Released to Japanese arcades in 1996 by Capcom, Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha (known internationally as Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold) served as a refined update to the immensely popular prequel. Moving away from standard iterative revisions, this arcade exclusive acted as a bridge between versions, introducing updated character rosters, remixed musical tracks, and crucial gameplay tuning. Notably, this iteration brought back classic World Warriors like Gen, Dhalsim, and Rolento from the original Street Fighter and Final Fight universes, while granting Evil Ryu a permanent roster slot and introducing a secret, hyper-powered version of Zangief. It captured the golden era of 2D sprite-based fighters, showcasing Capcom's peak artistic and technical prowess on the CP System II (CPS2) hardware before the franchise eventually transitioned into full 3D iterations.Gameplay Features & Mechanics
Zero 2 Alpha builds upon the revolutionary Custom Combo system introduced in its predecessor, allowing players to spend portions of their Super Combo gauge to chain virtually any normal or special attack into another, creating custom, high-damage juggles unique to each match. This version refines the Alpha Counter system, enabling instant defensive retaliations out of blockstun, and adds unique "Dramatic Battle" modes and custom character variations. Iconic character moves receive strategic tweaks—such as Ryu's ability to execute his legendary Shin Shoryuken and Akuma's air-borne Shun Goku Satsu (Raging Demon). The air-blocking mechanics, recovery roll capabilities, and the innovative juggle system reward high-level spacing, rapid-fire tactical decision-making, and precise execution.
