Description

In this game you play the role of a man whose girlfriend has been kidnapped by a ruthless mafia boss and you need to find her quickly.

The gameplay involves you having to shoot all the mafia henchmen before being able to fight the level boss. The game is view as a 1st person/3rd person hybrid where you are shooting in first person but you can see the outline of your character. To avoid getting shot you have to make sure you are not in front of an enemy as when you are your outline turns red and you are vulnerable. You can duck for cover but you automatically pop up after a few seconds so timing is everything. There is also a time limit for each level and more enemies to kill as the game progresses.

Dead Angle

Overview & History

Released by Seibu Kaihatsu in 1988, Dead Angle (known as Gang Hunter in Japan) is a gritty, historical arcade shooter set during the 1930s Prohibition era. Players step into the shoes of George, a fedora-wearing vigilante determined to dismantle a powerful Chicago crime syndicate after they frame him for a crime he didn't commit and kidnap his girlfriend. Unlike traditional side-scrollers, this cult classic blends rear-view third-person gunplay with cinematic storytelling, utilizing static cutscenes and newspaper clippings between stages to drive its revenge-driven narrative forward.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Dead Angle plays out across various hostile environments, including harbor warehouses, bustling city streets, and mob-controlled mansions. The core mechanic relies on a moving crosshair controlled by an analog stick or trackball, allowing players to shoot waves of gun-toting mobsters, throw dynamic counter-attacks, and dodge incoming projectiles. Unlike standard light-gun games, players also command George directly during specific melee encounters and platforming segments using a standard directional lever and dual-action button layout. To survive the relentless onslaught of Tommy-gunners, knife-throwers, and heavily armored bosses, players must strategically collect power-ups, manage limited ammunition, and utilize a defensive duck-and-roll maneuver to evade lethal gunfire.
