Description

An arcade golfing game developed and published by American Sammy in 1994.

The game has you playing traditional golf on three different fields which have the Beginner, Amateur and Pro skill levels respectively. Up to four players (turn-based) can participate. You choose one out of four golf players each with a different set of golf parameters, which determine their style of golf play. Next you choose the club you wish to join. Once your options are configured you try to make as few tee shots as possible to get the ball in the hole to for a winning streak. During the gameplay, the player chooses the stance, the type of golf club, the direction and the power of striking and then times the hit on the ball. Wind direction and speed affect where the ball will fly and land.

Eagle Shot Golf

Overview & History

Released by SNK in 1991 during the golden era of Neo-Geo arcade dominance, Eagle Shot Golf stands out as a charming, sports-anime-inspired take on the traditional links genre. Rather than a dry simulation, the game drops players into a whimsical tournament where quirky globe-trotting golfers compete across surreal courses featuring windmills, tropical beaches, and alpine cliffs. SNK injected their signature vibrant sprite work and punchy audio design into the game, creating an arcade experience that rewarded both precise timing and bold risk-taking. While it shared arcade spaces with fighting game heavyweights, Eagle Shot Golf carved out a dedicated following for its fast-paced multiplayer matches and surprisingly deep wind and terrain physics.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Eagle Shot Golf operates on a classic three-click swing meter, but it elevates the formula by introducing specialized character attributes and terrain dynamics. Before teeing off, players select from a roster of distinct golfers, each boasting unique statistics in power, slice control, and putting accuracy. Once on the course, players must master the environment: undulating greens, sudden coastal gusts, and strategically placed sand traps demand careful club selection and trajectory adjustment. A successful shot relies on stopping a moving power gauge at the exact apex for maximum distance, followed by a secondary click to determine hook or slice, and a final click for impact precision. Special power shots can be unleashed when the tension meter is full, allowing players to punch through adverse headwinds or curve the ball around immovable obstacles.
