Description

Hard Head 2 is a 2D side-scrolling platform game that puts players in the shoes of a Hard Head and it is a sequel to Hard Head. Before the game starts your girlfriend is kidnapped by a monster and now you have to rescue her.

As you traverse the eight stages, you have to navigate through an obstacle course. The various stages are filled with strange enemies like apes, snakes, lizards, birds and monsters. The gameplay differs from the original game. You fight these creatures with either a club, swinging a mace or bubble gun. Power-ups for these weapons can be found along the way and you have to fight various bosses to reach your girlfriend. Sometimes you have to climb, jumping enemies on the head will also kill them. You can play solo or with a friend.

Released in 1991 by SunA Electronics, Hard Head 2 is the wonderfully bizarre arcade sequel to the original prehistoric platformer. While the first game established the caveman antics, this iteration ramps up the surrealism, pitting our stone-age protagonists against absurd, modern-meets-primitive threats like giant mechanized dinosaurs, aggressive aliens, and high-tech weaponry. Operating on standard JAMMA arcade hardware, the game gained a cult following for its vibrant, highly expressive sprite work, unforgettable character animations, and a distinct comedic tone that set it apart from other run-and-gun platformers of the early nineties.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Hard Head 2 plays as a frantic, single or two-player co-op side-scrolling platformer where players traverse increasingly bizarre stages packed with hidden secrets and relentless foes. True to the title, the primary combat mechanic revolves around the characters' extraordinarily dense skulls. Instead of traditional weaponry, players dispatch enemies by leaping into the air and executing downward headbutts, or by hurling massive boulders and collected projectiles. The game introduces several wacky power-ups scattered across levels, transforming the cavemen into temporary powerhouses equipped with boomerangs, fire breath, or protective dino-mounts. Boss battles are a highlight, featuring multi-tiered encounters against screen-filling mechanical beasts that demand precise dodging and platforming mastery. The difficulty is notoriously unforgiving, a hallmark of SunA’s arcade design, requiring quick reflexes and pattern memorization to survive the chaotic onslaught.
