Description

It’s another sold out show for one of the world’s greatest rock bands – but this night is far from ordinary! A strange force from another dimension has eyes for the band’s sexy lead singer Sheena, and has chosen this night to make its move. And to ensure that it has Sheena all to itself, it’s taking Sheena through various periods in history. With Sheena gone, her band could be history! It’s up to two of Sheena’s bandmates, John and Rick, to save their singing eye candy before disaster strikes!

Rock’n Rage is a 8-way scrolling fighter in which John and Rick must battle through five time periods to save the lead singer of their band from a cruel fate. During game play, our two intrepid rockers can break pots to find note guns that allow them to attack from a distance, and point items that increase players’ current score. In addition to looking for a way out of the time period, John and Rick must also watch out for a special character (unique to each time period) that when found will give them a force field. At the exit to each time period, a boss awaits.

Players can rock alone, or team up with a buddy to save Sheena.

Rock 'n Rage

Overview & History

Released by Konami in 1986, Rock 'n Rage (known in Japan as *Heavy Metal*) is a bizarre, heavy-metal-themed arcade platformer that captures the over-the-top aesthetic of 1980s hair metal. Players take on the role of Ron, a leather-clad rocker who has been dragged straight into the fiery depths of the underworld by demonic forces after a concert. Armed only with a trusty guitar and sheer rebellious attitude, Ron must shred his way through hellish landscapes filled with punk-rock zombies, fire-breathing beasts, and heavy metal bosses to rescue his kidnapped bandmates. The game is celebrated for its distinct late-80s arcade charm, featuring gritty sprite work and an energetic soundtrack that channels classic metal riffs, making it a cult classic in Konami's diverse catalog of mid-80s arcade experiments.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Rock 'n Rage plays out across several side-scrolling, vertically and horizontally shifting stages. Unlike standard beat-'em-ups, Ron's primary weapon is his electric guitar, which he swings like a club in close quarters or strums to launch sonic wave projectiles at approaching ghouls. Platforming precision is crucial, as Ron must leap across crumbling platforms, dodge magma pits, and time his attacks against aggressively spawning enemies. Along the way, players can collect musical note power-ups to upgrade their sonic blasts, increasing both range and damage. Each stage culminates in a chaotic boss battle against colossal demons and rival underworld musicians, testing the player's reflexes and weapon spacing.
