Description

The Glob (also known as Super Glob and Beastie Feastie) is an arcade game released by Epos in 1983.

Guide the insatiable Glob through corridors, up and down the elevators and through the side tunnels in his never-ending search for snacks. An assortment of crafty animals relentlessly pursue the Glob and fight him for control of the elevators. Kill them by sticking to the ceiling and dropping on them or just avoid them and munch a dozen different snacks to clear the 24 unique levels.

This game is nearly identical to the later release Beastie Feastie. Cardinal Amusement Products, who produced Beastie Feastie, was a division of EPOS Corporation.
This game was cloned as The Glob and Beastie Feastie.

The Glob

Overview & History

Released into smoky arcades during the golden era of platforming, The Glob stands as a cult-classic title developed to push early sprite-scaling hardware. Players assume control of the titular protagonist, a sentient, translucent green blob of extraterrestrial slime created in a rogue government laboratory. Unlike traditional pixel heroes, our amorphous hero must escape a multi-tiered industrial complex while evading heavy-handed bio-containment squads and hazardous toxic waste streams. The game's unique narrative blends B-movie sci-fi horror with slapstick physics, making it an unforgettable visual experience for coin-op enthusiasts who stumbled past the more mainstream cabinets of the mid-1980s.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

At its core, The Glob is a vertically scrolling action-platformer focused on fluid momentum and environmental manipulation. Because the protagonist is entirely gelatinous, standard jumping mechanics are replaced by a unique "slingshot and squish" physics engine. Players can flatten themselves to slip through narrow ventilation shafts, absorb ambient chemical puddles to grow in size and gain temporary invincibility, or split into smaller droplet clones to solve intricate switch-based puzzles across the factory floors. The enemies range from hazardous laser-grid barriers to mechanized exterminator droids that require clever baiting into corrosive vats. Score multipliers are earned by collecting scattered isotope canisters while maintaining maximum velocity as the screen relentlessly scrolls upward, forcing quick reflexes against escalating hazards.
