A platform game where you aim to defeat Dr. GenBrain. Climb ladders and jump on platforms while killing enemies on the way to the end-of-level boss.

Thunder Hoop is a 2D side-scrolling platform game that puts players in the shoes of Thunder Hoop. Thunder Hoop has to stop the uncontrollable creatures professor Genbreak has released into to the world. Genbreak was forbidden to continue his dangerous research in creating these creatures, but exasperated, he created them all the same. Thunder Hoop was specifically developed in a laboratory to counter these creatures.

As you traverse the zones, you have to climb ladders, jump on platforms and defend yourself from the creatures. You can use your fists to shoot a the creatures and kill them, jumping enemies on the head will also kill them. Along the way various weapon power-ups can be collected. You can play solo or with a friend in alternating turns.

Released in arcades by Gaelco in 1992, Thunder Hoop is a vibrant, Spanish-developed run-and-gun platformer heavily inspired by Capcom's Mega Man and Sega's ESWAT. Set in a dystopian future plagued by a runaway biological weapon called the "T-Hoop" virus, players assume the role of Thunder, a cyborg warrior, or his partner Blue, dispatched to neutralize the mutating biochemical menace across urban and industrial ruins. While it never achieved the global saturation of Japanese arcade giants, it earned a cult following for its distinct Western comic-book aesthetic, massive sprite scaling, and booming, synth-heavy soundtrack composed by Alberto Jose Corral.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike traditional shooters where characters remain in a fixed form, Thunder Hoop revolves around a dynamic transformation mechanic. Players begin each stage in a standard humanoid combat suit, but collecting glowing power capsules fills an energy meter, allowing Thunder and Blue to morph into colossal, armored behemoths capable of devastating melee damage and screen-clearing energy blasts. The game unfolds across five side-scrolling stages filled with verticality, destructible environments, and relentless waves of bio-mechanical mutants, heavily armed mercenaries, and towering multi-stage bosses. Precision platforming is just as crucial as combat, requiring players to time jumps over electrified floors and bottomless pits while managing a strict countdown timer. The game also features intense cooperative multiplayer, allowing two players to simultaneously unleash chaotic firepower to survive the punishing difficulty curve.
