Trophy Hunting: Bear & Moose

Overview & History

Released during the peak of late-90s arcade light-gun and hunting simulation crazes, Trophy Hunting: Bear & Moose offered players a rugged, cabinet-based excursion into the untamed wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. Developed as a quarter-munching test of patience and precision, this arcade title traded fast-paced zombie shooting for stealthy, tactical tracking. Instead of mowing down hordes of enemies, players assumed the role of an elite wilderness guide tasked with responsibly managing local wildlife populations and bagging elusive apex predators across unforgiving seasonal maps ranging from snowy winter peaks to dense, foggy autumn timberlands.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The game departs from traditional arcade shooters by introducing realistic environmental hazards and stamina mechanics. Players must manage wind direction, scent cover, and noise levels before squeezing the trigger. A heart-rate monitor HUD dictates your weapon's sway; sprint too much to chase a fleeing bull moose, and your reticle will shake violently, resulting in a botched shot that scares your quarry away. The game features two distinct quarry types: the aggressive Grizzly Bear, which will actively charge the player if wounded rather than killed cleanly, and the majestic Bull Moose, which requires calculated tracking across vast topographical sectors within a strict in-game time limit. Success demands careful deployment of grunt calls, salt licks, and camouflage gear to close the distance.
