Gauntlet II was produced by Atari Games in 1986.

The Warrior, Valkyrie, Elf, and Wizard enter a dungeon with several hundred levels. Monster generators churn out wave after wave of enemies, destroy them to clear the level, and then find the exit. Collect food for health and magic items for power-ups.

This game is almost the same as the original Gauntlet except it contains over 100 new mazes with new enemies and other variations.
Also, each player can select whichever character he or she wants to play. Meaning, that each player can even all be the same character, regardlessly.

The players on the game are differed by color (red, yellow, blue and green) instead of character and the characters each player can select to play are respectively the Warrior, the Valkyrie, the Elf and the Wizard.

Released by Atari Games in 1986 as a direct arcade sequel to the coin-op phenomenon that birthed multiplayer dungeon crawling, Gauntlet II refines the isometric hack-and-slash formula with subtle yet brilliant enhancements. While the original game tasked four adventurers with escaping endless labyrinths of treasure and ghouls, this iteration introduces selectable duplicate characters—meaning four Bards or four Warriors can now roam the pixelated corridors simultaneously. Designed by Ed Logg and Atari's veteran arcade team, the cabinet also introduced a legendary voice synthesis track that aggressively warned players when "Warrior is about to die" or "Your health is running low," cementing its status as an arcade quarter-munching classic.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The core objective remains a frantic race for survival: navigate sprawling, trap-filled mazes, destroy infinite-spawning monster generators called generator shacks, and collect keys, potions, and food before your health dwindles to zero. Gauntlet II expands the tactical depth with randomized poison, invisibility, and speed-up power-ups hidden inside unmarked panels, alongside the introduction of the indestructible "It" monster that aggressively chases whichever player touched it last, shifting the target dynamically in multiplayer matches. The four classic classes—Thor the Warrior, Thyra the Valkyrie, Questor the Elf, and Merlin the Wizard—feature distinct attributes governing speed, magic power, melee strength, and armor durability. Players dispatch swarms of grunts, demons, lobbers, and sorcerers using directional ranged attacks or frantic close-range strikes, managing the classic health-as-currency mechanic where every second and every sustained hit drains vitality.
