In Alpine Ski, the real enjoyment of skiing is presented by lifelike Down Hill Skiing, Slalom Racing and Ski Jump Competition. The object of the game is to skillfully maneuver your skier around snowmobiles, beginning skiers, and other obstacles in order to gain the highest amount of points. More advanced players will be able to move on to the slalom course and the jump competition.

The speed of the skier can be controlled by depressing or releasing the button. Skiing down the slope successfully allows a player the chance to challenge the slalom course. Be careful not to knock down any poles or you will receive a penalty. Completion of the slalom course allows your skier to go onto the ski jump. In the jump competition, use the RADAR found on the upper portion of the screen to maximize the distance of the jump for bonus points. Playing time is increased when the player reaches the specified bonus level.

Programmed during the golden age of arcade gaming, it challenges players to test their slalom skills against a merciless countdown timer across three distinct stages: a traditional slalom flag course, a high-speed downhill race peppered with hazardous moguls, and a gravity-defying ski-jump finale where timing your launch off the ramp dictates your ultimate score. While it lacks a narrative storyline, its arcade lineage focuses purely on pure-skill time-trial survival.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The game is presented from a top-down vertical perspective. Players must navigate their skier down a dynamically generated snowy mountain while strictly avoiding rogue tree stumps, snowbanks, and erratic fellow skiers. Stage one requires precise lateral positioning to weave continuously between alternating red and blue slalom flags; missing a flag incurs a frustrating time penalty. Stage two strips away the flags, unleashing maximum velocity over bumpy terrain that can destabilize your balance. The final stage transitions to a ski-jump runway, where you accelerate down a ramp and must press the jump button at the absolute lip to achieve maximum distance before sticking a precarious landing.
