Description

In the year 2281, the United Earth Government and the Principalities of Raia signed a ceasefire treaty, ending a war that lasted for half a century. One year after the signing of the treaty, the United Earth Government’s 18th scouting party reported that the Raian capital, Melkide, has been captured by an army of unknown origin. The United Earth Government decided to dispatch an army to Raia to retake the capital and rescue its citizens. However, unbeknownst to the general public, the true purpose of this operation was to eliminate the unknown enemy and bring Raia under Earth’s control.

Armored Warriors

Overview & History

Released by Capcom in 1994 for the CP System II arcade hardware, Armored Warriors (known in Japan as Powered Gear) is a sci-fi side-scrolling beat 'em up heavily celebrated for its frantic mech combat and stunning sprite art. Set in the 30th century on war-torn Earth, the storyline follows a coalition of elite pilots striving to crush the alien Raikoh empire and prevent the total annihilation of humanity. Sharing a universe with Capcom's Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness, the game immerses players in a gritty, industrial war zone where heavy machinery reigns supreme. Unlike standard brawlers, your chosen character never fights on foot; instead, you pilot massive, customizable mechs known as VAs (Variant Armors) that can swap limbs mid-battle to drastically alter your offensive capabilities.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Armored Warriors revolutionizes the beat 'em up genre through its innovative weapon-strip mechanic. Enemies drop various mechanical limbs—such as buzzsaws, laser swords, flamethrowers, and heavy missile pods—allowing players to dynamically scavenge and upgrade their mechs in real time. The roster features four distinct pilots: Ray (a balanced all-rounder), Hurricane (speedy and agile), Garth (a massive, slow powerhouse), and Aisha (a nimble striker). Each mech boasts unique special maneuvers, including a devastating screen-clearing hyper bomb that consumes power gauges, dash attacks, and multi-hit aerial combos. The cooperative multiplayer allows up to three players to unleash synchronized team attacks, ripping apart boss armor piece by piece across beautifully detailed, industrial environments.
