Description
An old-school style shoot-em-up.
Giga Wing takes place during a fictional war within a steampunk setting. The player controls one of four different futuristic aircraft and must destroy enemy aircraft, tanks, ships, and buildings using both guns and missiles mounted on the aircraft and a limited supply of bombs which damage or destroy all enemies on-screen when used. The game is based on the player(s) trying to destroy a medallion which possesses great power. Many of the bosses use the medallion as a weapon. At the end, it shows that an evil man who pilots a ship called the “Stranger” is the real person who is in control of the Medallion, and was responsible for the war, as well as other conflicts in the past including World War II, and you fight him three times as a mini-boss and as the last boss. He appears to be a friend of Stuck 30 years ago when you fight him with Stuck.

Overview & History
Released by Capcom in 1999 and powered by the robust Sega Titan Video (ST-V) arcade hardware, *Giga Wing* is a masterclass in vertically scrolling bullet-hell madness developed by Takumi. Set in a steampunk-infused fantasy universe, the game's convoluted storyline revolves around the race to unearth the Medallion, a series of ancient alien artifacts capable of granting ultimate power, and the catastrophic global war fought over their control. Players choose from four distinct pilots—each paired with a specialized guardian aircraft—in a desperate bid to stop a rogue military faction from using the artifacts to rewrite history. Distinct for its overwhelmingly dense barrage of hostile projectiles, *Giga Wing* transformed the arcade landscape by introducing a scoring system measured in the trillions, capturing the obsessive arcade zeitgeist of the late '90s.
Gameplay Features & Mechanics
What sets *Giga Wing* apart from contemporary shoot 'em ups is its defining defensive mechanic: the Reflect Barrier. By holding down the bomb button, players can generate an impenetrable energy shield that not only blocks incoming fire but actively bounces bullets back at enemies as devastating crystal shards. This mechanic triggers an addictive risk-and-reward loop, encouraging players to dive headfirst into dense bullet patterns rather than simply dodging them, turning enemy fire into scoring opportunities that fill the screen with numerical score counters. The character roster features wildly different playstyles: Ikatla commands a balanced fighter with homing missiles; Ruby utilizes high-speed spread shots; Rimururu wields piercing laser beams; and Rice deploys heavy-hitting area-of-effect bombs. Each craft also boasts a powerful screen-clearing bomb and a charged shot that evolves depending on how many score multipliers you have accumulated. As you progress through the stages, the difficulty scales exponentially, demanding razor-sharp reflexes and meticulous positioning to survive the relentless onslaught of mechanical bosses.
