Description

You control a Ladybug that moves around a maze eating dots while avoiding poison and pursuing insects. The maze has revolving doors that can be used to thwart the insects. Collect letters to form the word “EXTRA” and receive an extra life or spell “SPECIAL” to earn free credits.

A Pac-Man-style maze game. Collect the dots and avoid the poison while dodging pursuing insects. If an insect hits some poison it dies. The maze has revolving wall sections that turn when you walk into them. Collect bonus dots for an increased score and letters to spell out “EXTRA” for an extra life or “SPECIAL” for an extra credit. The letters change colour and must be collected when they are the same colour as the word being spelled.

LadyBug

Overview & History

Released in 1981 by Universal, LadyBug is a cult-classic arcade maze game often overshadowed by its contemporaries like Pac-Man, yet it offers a far more dynamic and strategic puzzle experience. The storyline revolves around a vibrant, spotted ladybug navigating through a surreal, ever-shifting garden maze to rescue flowers and hearts while escaping aggressive, multi-colored skull insects. Its ingenious mechanical twist redefined the traditional dot-chomping formula by allowing players to physically alter the maze's architecture on the fly.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike stationary mazes, LadyBug introduces rotating green and yellow gates that players can manually push to open or close pathways. This mechanic is essential for trapping pursuing enemies or creating safe escape routes. The playing field is populated by colorful flowers, hearts, and letters that spell out 'EXTRA' for bonus points and extra lives. Grabbing a vegetable item in the center activates a timed panic mode, freezing the deadly bugs. As you progress through alternating stages and bonus rounds, the AI enemies evolve, hatching from nests and adapting to your newly formed wall configurations, requiring quick reflexes and spatial foresight.
