Description

Air Rescue is similar to Choplifter!. You are a pilot of a helicopter and the object is to rescue hostages without being shot down by soldiers, jeeps, tanks, choppers, and ground-based missiles, and bring them back to base. A maximum of four hostages can fit into the helicopter at any given time, so it is necessary to make more than one trip. You can choose from a variety of weapons that you can use to shoot down enemies. There are five rounds, which take you through theme parks, burning skyscrapers, army bases, sunken submarines, and caverns. The round ends when you have taken the required number of hostages to the bases.

Air Rescue

Overview & History

Released by Sega in 1992 exclusively for the 8-bit Master System during its twilight years in Europe and Brazil, *Air Rescue* is a critically overlooked isometric action-arcade game developed during a time when Sega was fiercely supporting its aging hardware. Departing from traditional side-scrolling shoot-'em-ups, the game drops players into the cockpit of a specialized military helicopter tasked with high-stakes urban extraction missions. The storyline follows an elite global response unit operating across hostile, war-torn cityscapes and burning industrial complexes, racing against a relentless countdown timer to rescue trapped civilians and neutralize heavily armed insurgent forces.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Played from a distinctive top-down isometric perspective, *Air Rescue* challenges players to master both spatial navigation and precision combat. Each of the game's intense stages requires you to carefully pilot your chopper through narrow alleyways, avoid anti-aircraft fire, and hover stationary over designated landing pads to winch trapped survivors to safety. Once your cabin capacity is full, you must quickly fly to the nearest safe zone while managing your limited fuel and armor integrity. Combat mechanics are equally demanding; your helicopter is equipped with a forward-firing machine gun for clearing ground infantry and targeted missiles for destroying enemy tanks, turrets, and armored blockades. The difficulty ramps up swiftly, requiring acute reflexes to balance offensive firepower with delicate rescue operations amidst sprawling labyrinthine maps and aggressive boss encounters.
