Overview & History

Released in 1993 exclusively for the Sega Master System in South Korea by Samsung, Dallyeora Pigu-Wang (meaning "Run, Dodgeball King") is an intriguing localized adaptation based on the popular anime and manga franchise Super Dodge Ball (Kunio-kun series). While the Master System was winding down globally, South Korea's unique market kept the 8-bit console thriving with exclusive titles. This game captures the frantic, over-the-top energy of playground dodgeball, blending frantic sports action with quirky character stats, special projectile moves, and humorous animations that make every match delightfully chaotic.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The game departs from traditional sports sims by transforming dodgeball into a battle of attrition and reflexes. Players control a team of three unique characters navigating distinct stages set against rival school grounds. Unlike standard dodgeball rules, players can move freely across their half of the court, roam the outer perimeter to blindside opponents, and unleash devastating special throws unique to each team member. Characters charge up a power meter by holding the action button, allowing them to hurl the ball with elemental or sonic effects that send enemies flying backward. Health bars dictate a character's stamina; taking too many direct hits knocks them out of the match, reducing your active roster. The pacing is relentlessly fast, requiring players to master quick dodging, precise catching mechanics, and strategic passing between frontline and perimeter teammates to break the enemy's defensive formation.
