Description

Two great games. One great SEGA Light Phaser.

MARKSMAN SHOOTING puts you in training with the FBI. When the clock starts ticking, the targets start jumping, you start shooting. No time to panic. Too late to call it off. If you hit more than the designated number of targets you get to move on to another nerve-wracking round.

TRAP SHOOTING demands a keen eye and faultless split-second reactions. As you tramp through the muddy grasslands, or a dense forest, you must keep your wits in this realistic clay pigeon shooting game. Only dead-on shots will let you go to the next round.

Marksman Shooting & Trap Shooting

Overview & History

Released by Sega in 1986 for the Master System, Marksman Shooting & Trap Shooting is a classic compilation cartridge designed specifically to showcase the capabilities of the Sega Light Phaser. Coming at a time when arcade-style light gun games were making a massive leap into the home console market, this dual-mode title offered players a taste of both precision bullseye marksmanship and fast-paced clay pigeon shattering. Unlike many standard light gun games of the era that featured convoluted plots, this title focused purely on competitive sport shooting, challenging players to test their reflexes and accuracy across distinct sporting disciplines without the need for a narrative.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The cartridge splits its gameplay into two distinct experiences. The Marksman Shooting mode places players in front of stationary and moving targets, testing steady aim and rapid-fire capabilities as targets appear in various patterns and speeds. Meanwhile, Trap Shooting replicates the classic shotgun sport, requiring players to track ascending clay discs across the screen and pull the trigger at the exact intersection of trajectory and timing. Utilizing the Sega Light Phaser, players must calibrate their aiming precision against strict time limits and ammunition constraints. Success relies entirely on screen-clearing accuracy, rewarding high scores with progressive difficulty tiers that demand quicker reflexes and sharper visual tracking.
