Developed by Probe Software and published by US Gold in 1994, The Incredible Hulk for the Sega Master System arrived late in the 8-bit console's lifecycle, making it a rare European and Brazilian exclusive. Based on Marvel's iconic jade giant, the game loosely ties into the concurrent animated series storyline. Bruce Banner must navigate a perilous global trek to cure himself of the gamma radiation coursing through his veins while dodging the relentless pursuit of Leader, Abomination, and the military forces led by General "Thunderbolt" Ross.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike the brawler-heavy adaptations on other systems, the Master System iteration is primarily an action-platformer featuring heavy exploration, environmental puzzle-solving, and strict combat timing. Players begin each stage as the mild-mannered Dr. Bruce Banner, who must carefully avoid taking damage or collect specific gamma canisters to trigger his explosive transformation into the Hulk. The health system is uniquely tied to this mechanic; taking too much damage reverts the Hulk back to Banner, drastically reducing his offensive capabilities and leaving him vulnerable to instant death. The level design spans high-tech laboratory complexes, hazardous industrial zones, and dense jungles, each riddled with crumbling platforms, security turrets, and relentless armed guards. Boss encounters at the end of each zone require players to exploit specific environmental hazards or wait for precise openings to deal massive damage, demanding patience rather than button-mashing.
