Released exclusively in Japan in 1990 for the PC Engine (known internationally as the TurboGrafx-16), *Chikudenya Toubei: Kubikiri Yakata Yori* is a wonderfully bizarre and atmospheric action-platformer developed by Micro Cabin. Loosely inspired by traditional Japanese folklore and macabre ghost stories, the game casts players as the titular Toubei, an ordinary merchant dragged into a living nightmare inside the infamous "Beheading Mansion" (Kubikiri Yakata). Unlike typical stoic samurai or ninja heroes found in contemporary 16-bit titles, Toubei is remarkably out of his depth, navigating a haunted estate crawling with floating heads, possessed lanterns, and grotesque yokai.
