Released in 1990 by Atlus for the PC Engine and later adapted as 'Puzzle Boy' for the TurboGrafx-16, this cerebral tile-sliding masterpiece is actually the console progenitor of the famous 'Kwirk' series. While many 16-bit titles focused on high-speed action, Puzzle Boy carved its own niche in the puzzle genre by challenging players with intricate spatial-reasoning mazes. The whimsical storyline casts you as a plucky, cap-wearing protagonist navigating through a labyrinthine world filled with rotating obstacles, deadly pitfalls, and impassable barriers. Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Puzzle Boy is played from a top-down perspective across a grid-based playing field, demanding meticulous planning over brute-force reflexes. The character’s primary mechanic involves interacting with L-shaped, T-shaped, and straight blocks that can be pushed horizontally or vertically. However, certain blocks are bolted down or can only be rotated at specific pivot points, requiring you to carefully calculate every step. As you progress through the game's dozens of increasingly complex stages, you encounter hazards like crumbling floor tiles, one-way gates, and switches that alter the layout of the maze. Unlike traditional platformers, there are no combat encounters; instead, the environmental hazards and strict spatial constraints are your true adversaries. If you back a block into a corner or trap yourself, a quick reset button is your only salvation, making trial, error, and foresight the keys to survival.
