Also as double-ender with Robin Hood. A damsel in distress is being held in a castle by a fire breathing dragon! As Sir Lancelot, you need to ride your winged horse Pegasus to the rescue. Each level in this action game consists of two screens. First you are outside the castle which is guarded by numerous flying creatures. You need to fly around the screen and destroy all of the creatures by hitting them with your lance (careful, if they hit you instead you’ll lose a life). After all of the creatures are gone, you enter the second screen which is inside the castle. Here there is a large pit of lava and a flying dragon. To destroy the dragon you need to hit it’s stomach with your lance. If you are hit by one of the dragon’s fireballs you’ll be temporarily stunned and unable to fly. If you end up falling into the lava, you’ll lose a life. If you can defeat the dragon, the game repeats at a higher difficulty level. The game ends when you lose all of your lives.

Released in 1983 by Xonox during the height of the golden age of arcade gaming, Sir Lancelot for the ColecoVision is a creative blend of side-scrolling platforming and vertical ladder-climbing puzzle action. Developed to capitalize on medieval fantasy tropes popularized by coin-op hits, the game casts players as the legendary knight of the Round Table on a perilous quest to rescue Queen Guinevere from the clutches of the wicked Black Knight. Unlike standard platformers of the era, Sir Lancelot requires players to master multi-tiered castles across distinct, alternating gameplay phases that test both spatial awareness and rapid reflexes.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The game is divided into repeating cycles of unique operational stages. In the initial phase, Lancelot must traverse castle battlements plagued by treacherous gaps, hovering fiery orbs, and aggressive guards. Armed with a trusty broadsword, our knight can duck, thrust his weapon forward, and leap over hazards. Once the outer wall is cleared, the perspective shifts dramatically as Lancelot ascends a dizzying multi-level scaffolding structure using ropes and ladders while dodging falling boulders, flying arrows, and mystical bats. Each stage introduces escalating enemy speed and tighter timing windows, demanding absolute precision with the ColecoVision's unique controller keypad and directional disc. The ultimate goal of rescuing the Queen resets the quest at a higher difficulty, tracking high scores across grueling medieval trials.
