Overview & History

Released by Exidy in arcades and ported to the ColecoVision by Coleco in 1984, Victory is a challenging multidirectional shooter based on the arcade original, designed to utilize the unique keypad overlay of the ColecoVision controller. Set in the war-torn planetary system of the Delta sector, players assume the role of an elite pilot steering a high-tech fighter craft through hostile airspace. The objective is to defeat the mechanical alien forces occupying multiple volatile sectors before your ship runs out of fuel and life-support energy. Unlike standard vertical scrollers of its era, Victory requires careful resource management and spatial awareness across alternating gameplay phases.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The game is divided into distinct operational stages. Players must navigate a rotating radar grid, entering combat sectors to dogfight enemy interceptors and strafe heavily defended ground installations. Your ship is equipped with a forward-firing laser cannon and limited smart bombs that clear the immediate screen of threats. A unique gameplay mechanic is the dual-axis movement system, which lets you accelerate or decelerate to control scrolling speed—crucial for dodging kamikaze drones and dodging missile barrages. Energy constantly drains as you fly, forcing players to actively hunt for floating fuel pods while avoiding hazardous asteroid fields and planetary terrain. Precision shooting is rewarded with score multipliers, but missing targets leaves you vulnerable to enemy counter-attacks.
