Description

Control your tank against hoards of enemy tanks, planes, gun turrets & mines to find your mission objectives and move to the next goal.

Next jump out of your tank and pick up your Thompson machine gun to storm into enemy bunkers to free POW’s, capture the Enigma machine or steal a prototype stealth plane!

Then fly the stealth plane against enemy squadrons, anti aircraft guns and a missle launching blimp and destroy all the dread V2 Rockets before landing the plane and returning it to your superiors.

While it never achieved the mainstream household name status of Nintendo's Combat or Sega's Tank Battalion, Tank Mission carved out a dedicated niche among ColecoVision owners due to its surprisingly robust tactical pacing, maze-like level layouts, and unforgiving enemy AI. Players assume the role of an elite armored commander deployed behind enemy lines to neutralize a rogue hostile battalion that has seized strategic grid sectors. The game distinguishes itself through clever level design and tight execution.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Gameplay in Tank Mission revolves around navigating a labyrinthine grid of destructible and non-destructible obstacles while hunting down rival tanks. Unlike simpler arcade shooters of the era, positioning is paramount; players must utilize narrow corridors to ambush opponents or reverse rapidly to dodge incoming armor-piercing shells. The game features multiple escalating stages where enemy tanks increase in speed, fire rate, and aggression. A unique radar HUD at the edge of the screen tracks the remaining hostile units, forcing players to balance aggressive offense with defensive cornering. Ricochet mechanics add an extra layer of strategy, allowing shells to bounce off concrete barriers to hit blind spots.
