Description

Nothing can stand between Pac-Man and his food!

Pac-Man is back! While he was away, the ghosts have been harvesting fruits and are keeping them hidden behind locked doors inside their maze. But that won’t keep Pac-Man away for very long, especially with the ghosts carelessly leaving the keys lying around, and with Pac-Man having a new SUPER trick up his sleeve!

In this adaptation of the famous arcade game, you play as Pac-Man, and your goal is to gobble up all the fruits while evading the ghosts. Collect keys to open locked doors. Eat a Power pellet to gain the ability to gobble the ghosts for a short time. Eat a Super pellet and you will grow into the unstoppable Super Pac-Man!

Super Pac-Man

Overview & History

Released by Coleco in 1984, the ColecoVision port of Namco’s 1982 arcade sequel injected a radical twist into the maze-chase genre. Instead of merely devouring dots, players guided Pac-Man through asymmetrical, barrier-heavy labyrinths to unlock color-coded gates, consuming fresh arrays of floating fruit items—ranging from bananas to coffee cups—rather than standard pellets.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Departing from the original formula, the maze features locked doors requiring matching keys scattered around the playfield to progress. Eating a star item grants Super Pac-Man temporary invulnerability and massive vertical/horizontal expansion, allowing him to smash through walls and bulldoze ghosts. However, standard Power Pellets now turn ghosts semi-transparent; they can still trap you unless you are in your "Super" state. The ColecoVision cartridge adapts the vertically oriented arcade cabinet into a horizontal television display, utilizing chunky pixel sprites and a distinctive chiptune soundtrack to recreate the frantic, lock-and-key spatial puzzle.

Keyboard Controls

  • Arrow Keys / D-Pad: Move Pac-Man through the maze corridors
  • Action Keys: Not used (Movement is purely directional)
  • Enter: Start / Pause the game
