I’m Flash, the fastest Spanish cat in the city. I’ve spent the day wandering around with my friends, looking for some food and having fun… but I’ve suddenly remembered I have a date with Iris, the cutest kitty of the downtown area!! I’m already late and I have a long way to go, so I decided to race across the city rooftops to get to Iris’ penthouse faster… But the rooftops are definately not safe, with obstacles around every corner! Iris is certainly worth the risk! I’ll show you why they call me Flash!!

Stray Cat

Overview & History

Developed as an ultra-rare homebrew title for the classic ColecoVision console, Stray Cat captures the retro aesthetic of early 1980s cartridge gaming while introducing surprisingly fluid platforming mechanics. Originally conceptualized by independent retro enthusiasts eager to push the TMS9918A video display processor to its absolute limits, the game puts players in the paws of Felix, an urban feline navigating a maze of industrial alleys, rooftops, and hazardous warehouses. Unlike typical arcade ports of its era, Stray Cat weaves a charming narrative about a lost pet searching for its cozy apartment home across five distinct zones, featuring vibrant sprite scaling and colorful background tiles that were rarely seen in standard ColecoVision releases of the period.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Players must guide the titular feline across precarious clotheslines, dodge angry guard dogs, and leap over moving hazards like rolling tin cans and patrolling exterminator drones. Felix's primary defensive move is a swift tail-whip attack capable of stunning nuisance pests such as alley rats and pigeons. Additionally, players can utilize a high-jump ability by holding down the action button to clear wider gaps between dilapidated rooftops. Collecting scattered fish bones along the way restores missing lives, while golden yarn balls grant temporary invincibility, turning the cautious stray into an unstoppable bounding predator for a limited duration.
