Rise up to the challenge of your king!

The king of your kingdom is looking for a new knight to sire, and you’re next in line for the post! However, the king will only give your candidacy serious consideration if you manage to bring back the coveted royal sword from the depths of his deadly dungeon! Armed only with a crossbow, you must run, jump, climb and shoot your way through the maze of dungeon rooms, picking up various items for bonus points and keys to open locked doors along the way. Watch out for patrolling guards of all shapes and sizes, most of which will shoot at you on sight! Find the sword, bring it back to your king, and you will become the hero of your kingdom, and also its next royal knight!

Module Man

Overview & History

Released in 1983 during the twilight of the classic era, Module Man is an ambitious sci-fi platformer developed for the ColecoVision by Bit Corp. While it never achieved the ubiquitous mainstream fame of arcade ports, this rare cartridge gained a cult following for its unique aesthetic and puzzle-infused design. The storyline thrusts players into the metallic boots of the eponymous hero, a cybernetic maintenance engineer stranded inside the sprawling, labyrinthine mainframe of a rogue alien supercomputer known as Omega-9. Your mission is to navigate treacherous cyber-sectors, scavenge scattered power modules, and recalibrate the system before Omega-9 initiates a global blackout.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike typical run-and-gun shooters of its time, Module Man slows the pace down to emphasize strategic platforming and inventory management. The screen is divided between a side-scrolling action window and a dynamic status grid. As the Module Man, you must run and jump across hazardous, neon-lit platforms while dodging patrolling security drones, laser grids, and molten energy pools. Your character is equipped with a versatile multi-tool beam. Instead of merely destroying enemies, this beam can temporarily freeze hostile drones, activate dormant transport lifts, and collect volatile power modules. Carrying these modules is a double-edged sword: while they are necessary to power up terminal gates and unlock new sectors, holding them restricts your jump height and slows your movement speed. Players must constantly weigh the risk of carrying heavy hardware against the threat of pursuing hunter-killer bots. The level design heavily features verticality, moving platforms, and disappearing bridges, requiring precise timing and spatial awareness to survive the game's escalating difficulty across its five distinct sectors.
