Music solves everything, even a monster slime infestation!

DJ Mark and Nerdy Billy had been friends for years. But this friendship was strained when Billy was not invited to a big uptown teenage party where Mark was hired to work as a disc jockey. Being an inventor and somewhat crazy scientist, Billy discovered a way to ruin the party for everyone by creating monster slimes that would scare all the party-goers away. But soon after launching his master plan, Billy had a change of hearts, and he asked DJ Mark to help him fix things before the party starts.

Billy gave Mark a powerful weapon against the slimes: A music box that can deliver a sonic explosion that exterminates slimes on contact! But the sonic blast is so strong that it can also knock out Mark himself! So now it’s up to DJ Mark to carefully take care of this slime infestation! Don’t let the slimes touch DJ Mark, or his happy tune will end abruptly!

Booming Boy

Overview & History

Released in 1989 by Bit Corporation, Booming Boy is a rare and fascinating late-era title for the ColecoVision. Long after major publishers abandoned Coleco's hardware, this platformer pushed the system's Texas Instruments TMS9918 graphics chip to handle vertically scrolling levels and distinct cartoonish sprites. The game follows the whimsical, helmeted protagonist Booming Boy on a hazardous quest through surreal subterranean caverns and mechanical fortresses to rescue his captured companion from the nefarious Dr. Kopter. Despite its late release limiting its commercial reach, it remains a cult classic among retro collectors.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike standard horizontal platformers of the era, Booming Boy emphasizes vertical progression, requiring players to ascend treacherous towers while dodging relentless hazards. The core mechanic revolves around the protagonist's specialized explosive arsenal. Rather than traditional jumping attacks, Booming Boy deploys timed bombs to clear destructible terrain, eliminate enemies, and trigger switches. Players must strategically manage fuse timers and blast radiuses to solve environmental puzzles. Power-ups scattered throughout the stages enhance blast power, grant temporary invincibility, or increase movement speed, adding crucial layers of strategy to the frantic arcade-style action.
