Description
Gorf is an official conversion of the arcade classic of the same name. Like all the official conversions, the Galaxians level is not included in this port.
These are the four levels included in the game:
• The first level has you behind a defensive shield, defending against an alien attack. The level is a top-down view, with your ship & shield on one side and the aliens on the other side;
• The second level is similar to the first, only your defensive shield is gone, and the enemies tend to swoop down over the level as opposed to those row formations. Bonus ships also tend to appear in this level;
• The third level is a change, and has you entering hyperspace. Your only goal is to survive to the end of your journey. The viewpoint switches from a top-down view to a behind-the-ship view and in effect you are heading “towards” your destination. Alien vessels flying in circular formation try to stop you;
• The fourth and final level is similar to the first again, with some key differences. You do not fight a wave of enemies, but a single one. A mothership with a glowing weak spot. Hitting the weak spot will instantly destroy it. The mothership also has that same shield that was yours in the first level.

Overview & History
Released by Coleco in 1983 for the ColecoVision, *Gorf* (Galactic Orbiting Robot Force) is a home port of Midway’s 1981 arcade multi-stage shooter designed by Dave Nutting. Standing for "Galactic Old-Robot Federation," the game's tongue-in-cheek sci-fi storyline pits the player against the evil Empire of Gorf across escalating missions to save the universe. Although missing the voice synthesis of the arcade original, the ColecoVision conversion is celebrated for its remarkably crisp graphics, faithful arcade-style audio, and blisteringly fast action that pushed the hardware to its limits.Gameplay Features & Mechanics
Unlike standard fixed shooters of its era, *Gorf* on the ColecoVision structures its campaign as a gauntlet of four distinct missions, plus a secret fifth bonus round. Players pilot the Galactic Defender starfighter, navigating through Astro Battles, Laser Attack, Space Warp, and the climactic Flagship Attack. Each mission introduces fundamentally different mechanics: Astro Battles plays like *Galaxian* with diving enemy formations; Laser Attack requires chipping away at a rotating energy barrier; Space Warp introduces hypnotic, swirling starfield vectors where enemies zoom straight toward the screen; and the Flagship Attack serves as a classic boss battle against the giant Galactic Colossus. The ColecoVision port captures the frantic pace of the arcade by giving players a rapid-fire laser cannon, though holding down the fire button too long can cause your weapon to occasionally overheat, adding a layer of tactical rhythm to the annihilation of mutant robots and swirling vortexes.
